In NHS Dumfries and Galloway, we recognise that your wellbeing matters. Training as a resident doctor is rewarding, but it can also be demanding, with pressures from clinical work, exams, and personal commitments.
We are committed to supporting you to stay well, build resilience, and thrive throughout your training.
We offer a supportive learning environment alongside a wide range of wellbeing resources. Through the Staff Wellbeing Hub, you can access confidential emotional support, counselling and mindfulness resources, as well as practical advice on managing stress, maintaining work–life balance, and strengthening social connections. We encourage you to connect with colleagues, seek support early, and make use of the tools available to help you look after your mental health.
If you need more focused support, the 1‑1 Staff Psychology Service provides timely access to psychological assessment and evidence‑based interventions, including CBT‑informed approaches, to help with work‑related stress, anxiety, or low mood.
Spiritual Care services are also available, offering a confidential and compassionate space to reflect, talk, and find support regardless of background or beliefs.
In addition, you can access the Scotland Deanery’s Development and Wellbeing Service, which offers confidential, independent support and guidance to help you navigate challenges and maintain your wellbeing during training.
