Entry Level Trainer Workshop – Trainer Development Collaborative (formerly FDA)
Aims and objectives
This entry-level workshop is aimed at those consultants, public health consultants and SAS-grade doctors who are about to undertake an educational role and covers the fundamentals of both Clinical and Educational Supervision.
Please note that you do not have to complete Trainer Workshop if you have recently completed the Pre-CCT Trainer Workshop.
It is also a prerequisite for all GP ESs wishing to move into a training role within their practice, prior to undertaking the General Practice Trainer Entry Course (GP TEC).
This course is suitable for initial recognition as a trainer only. It is not suitable for those seeking to be re-recognised and will not be accepted as evidence for re-recognition purposes.
The course will be delivered in two parts – the 1st part is an eLearning module which is to be completed prior to the start of the course with the 2nd part being an online workshop.
Learning outcomes
The Trainer Workshop consists of an online module and a workshop (note some workshops are now being delivered locally, by regional faculty groups).
Online module
The online module, which must be completed before attending the workshop covers the following areas:
Background:
- Recognition of Trainer requirements
- The Educational Governance Structure
- The NES Quality Management Framework
Educational Activities:
- Departmental/practice induction
- Educational meetings
- On-the-job teaching
Assessment & feedback
There are tasks to complete from the module. These will be used for discussion at the workshop to follow.
The workshop
The workshop will focus on the following areas:
- The learning environment
- Giving effective feedback
- The Educational Supervisor’s report
Target audience
